Movement reinvented!

With bow®, medi presents a truly sensational innovation that aims to mimic the natural windlass mechanism. Thanks to this, the foot arch is stabilized – perfect for people with Pes planovalgus. In addition, bow supports the natural function of the foot in every step. Even healthy feet can feel lighter, more dynamic and less fatigue. The inventors and developers of this new type of foot orthotic are Thomas Stief and Tino Sprekelmeyer from the company (ts)2 GmbH. Together with medi, they brought out a brand new approach to foot treatment.

“Thanks to the windlass mechanism, the entire foot is more stable and better able to transmit the forces exerted by the leg muscles when pushing off from the floor. We thus move more efficiently, thanks to this mechanism.”

Dr. med. Martin Jordan, PhD, Consultant for Orthopaedics and Accident Surgery of Hessingpark Clinic in Augsburg

The highlights at a glance

bow highlights at a glance
  1. Dynamic support of the longitudinal arch

bow mimics the natural windlass mechanism and reacts just like the longitudinal arch of a healthy foot: it elevates. Due to this, it realigns the midfoot and hindfoot during the gait pattern and the foot arch is stabilized.

  2. Deflector

One benefit: bow stores energy that is then released when the foot is lifted off the floor, like a spring. This effect gives you a noticeable extra spring in your step when walking or running.

  3. Space saving, thanks to slim design

bow can be used in various types of footwear, from every day shoes to trainers. You can also put them in a different pair of shoes at any time, as the change is quick and easy.

bow® – A helper with a huge impact

bow vs. classic insoles: gait cycle

The big plus of bow compared to other traditional foot orthotics: It supports you throughout the initial and mid stance phase, as well as through to the initial swing phase. In this phase, the natural windlass mechanism is performed in a healthy foot. Pes planovalgus is one of the most frequent foot malpositions to be diagnosed – in this indication, the windlass mechanism is no longer being executed correctly. This is where the bow comes into play: with its unique design, it supports the foot in achieving natural locomotion and thus stabilizes the arch of the foot - for secure, natural locomotion.

“bow takes foot orthotic treatment to a whole new level. By mimicing the windlass mechanism, it directly addresses an issue that we have often raised within our company and in discussion with physiotherapists. One thing is certain: This foot orthotic can help a great many people if it is used in an indication-based manner. It supports the biomechanics of the foot and represents an ideal symbiosis of science and technology.”

Your personalized bow®

Your medical retail specialist will adapt your bow orthotics to your individual needs, dependent on the indication, your footwear and the scope of application.

To this end, the professional optionally uses the appropriate supporting elements and pads, along with a cover. The finished pair of bow is thus perfectly tailored to you, for maximum comfort and therapeutic success.

The extra spring in your step!

Only bow is this clever: whether you’re walking or running, bow reacts just like the longitudinal arch of a healthy foot and elevates. Here, bow stores energy that is then released when the foot is lifted off the floor, like a spring. This "bow effect" gives you a noticeable extra spring in your step. This really boosts the energy in anyone’s feet!

Intended purpose of foot orthotic blanks

The orthotic blank is handed over to the supplying specialist groups. They build up a custom-made orthotic. This ensures that the patient's foot is treated according to the indication.
